Overview
The Senior Medical & Scientific Strategist directly produces scientific and clinical information output that is relevant, accurate and on-strategy as well as directing the development of clinical and scientific content to meet brand/client needs for both current clients and new business opportunities. This position has responsibility to build internal understanding of relevant pharmaceuticals, devices and disease states, as well as assessing the current and future competitive environment to ensure building on-strategy platforms for execution.
Description of Duties
- Develops effective relationships with client medical teams and other relevant medical personnel (eg, consultants)
- Consults with internal and external teams as appropriate at a strategic and tactical level
- Proactively challenges and strategies and directions not aligned with current medical practice/science; helps identify barriers, positioning, and strategies from a medical/scientific perspective
- Identifies and accesses appropriate resources as necessary (market research, insights, etc) to develop tactics and strategies
- Identifies, assimilates, and interprets appropriate medical insights, facts, and data to foster the planning and creative processes for the client and agency team
- Serves as medical representative on new business pitches
- Advanced degree required: PharmD, PhD, MD/DO
- At least 5 years previous experience in the pharmaceutical/medical/science industry
- Must be able to provide scientific and medical expertise across a broad range of therapeutic categories
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or pharmaceutical marketing desired; neuroscience experience desired
- Problem Solving: Uses logic and established methods to research, and retrieve critical data; is excellent at honest analysis; probes all sources for answers; can see hidden problems; looks beyond the obvious and doesn’t stop at the first answers
- Command Skills: Takes charge in challenging situations; does whatever it takes to get the job done despite resistance; takes unpopular stands if necessary; is looked to for direction in a crisis; is looked to as a leader
- Presentation Skills: Is effective in a variety of formal presentation settings: one-on-one, small/large groups, with peers, subordinates, and bosses; is effective both inside and outside the organization; commands attention and can manage group process during the presentation
