Description:
The Copy Editor is responsible for proofreading and copy editing all materials developed by our client and for assuring adherence to all styles, formats, and templates. To accomplish these tasks, the Copy Editor will interact with the Managing Medical Editors; and Projects, Meetings, and Creative Services staff.
Responsibilities:
- Proofread/edit meeting agendas, program announcements, faculty and client database profiles, faculty and client correspondence, and other project- and meeting-related materials and communications.
- Proofread/edit editorial materials, including monographs, manuscripts, slides, slide notebooks, and executive summaries.
- Proofread journal galleys and print proofs.
- Make technical revisions to document electronic files, make content/substantive edits daily with approval from Chief Copy Editor.
- Verify accuracy of data and referenced publications in enduring materials.
- Review published literature and conduct research as needed to complete copy editing assignments.
- Assure that all written materials, electronic files, and slides follow client’s editorial style or the appropriate client or journal style.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- A bachelor’s degree is required
- A degree in journalism or the biological sciences is preferred
- Three to five years of editing experience
- Extensive experience with AMA style is preferred
- Two years of copy editing/proofreading experience
- Knowledge of conventional proofreaders’ marks and medical terminology
- Familiarity with AMA style
- Excellent command of English language and grammar
- Proficiency with MS Word and PowerPoint, and internet sources of pharmaceutical/medical information
- High degree of initiative and self-motivation
- Able to complete assigned tasks with minimal direction
- Able to prioritize multiple tasks and work within tight deadlines
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- Dependable and uses good judgment.
