Summary
The AS develops strong and effective working relationships at several levels within the client’s organization. He/She is ultimately responsible for client satisfaction with agency output. The AS is responsible for ongoing client satisfaction and is central to the development of additional business opportunities by building client relationships, establishing and monitoring budgets, ensuring adherence to timelines, identifying and enlisting resources, and ensuring the quality and timeliness of the final deliverable product. He/She is responsible for supervising and managing the account team and their resources.
Principal Responsibilities
- Client management
- Cultivates and builds solid relationships with clients
- Develops strategic communication (publication, advocacy development, and medical education) plans
- Routinely suggests new and relevant initiatives to clients
- Plans and prioritizes account team work plan and delegates responsibilities
- Ensures that principles of efficiency, economy, and quality are utilized in all client work
- Determines manpower needs of account group for client
- Oversees budgeting process
- Reviews initial and revised job-level budgets and reviews appropriate job-level tracking reports
- Collaborates with AD/VP to prepare annual client fee budget and to ensure budgets are updated as necessary
- Assists with day-to-day account problem solving
- Supervises AE projects
- Initiates and attends all meetings in which important strategies and plans are discussed
- Responsible for income and profitability of account
- Project management
- Ensures client is pleased with agency services, and, if not, identifies problems early
- Periodically reviews client’s organization with a view towards identifying business needs
- Strives within the agency to achieve accuracy and creative excellence
- Creative and scientific output
- Reviews and approves client/brand backgrounder for new clients prior to project kickoff meeting
- Reviews and approves briefing document
- Ensures creative and scientific output is on strategy, on message, and clearly exceeds client’s expectations
- New business/Agency management
- Provides AE/JAE with research direction
- Develops proposals
- Approves pre and post mailings
- Provides VP with recommendations to improve the agency or better customize services to meet client’s needs
- Represents entire agency to client by selling ideas and demonstrating how the company can implement resulting projects
- Maintains regular and meaningful communication with client regarding work and important information for client’s business
- Anticipates and meets client’s needs
- Personnel management
- Recruits and hires JAE/AE
- Trains and supervises JAE/AE
- Identifies and provides developmental opportunities for JAE/AE
- Conducts JAE/AE annual and midterm performance reviews
- Understands the expertise of internal team members and utilizes those resources responsibly to ensure high quality and time efficiency
- Manages, develops, and trains account team members and is instrumental in maintaining staffing efficiencies
- In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical and agency industry
- Thorough understanding of communications planning and branding
- Understands the science behind the disease and brand in order to contribute at more meaningful level
- Superior oral and written communications skills

- Bachelor degree (minimum), preferably in the health sciences, marketing, or communications field
- 5-7 years of pharmaceutical and/or agency experience
- 1-2 years management experience preferred
- Willing to travel (~20%-30%)
- Willing to work extra hours to meet impending deadlines
