Position Summary:
The Medical Director (MD) is the principal internal therapeutic expert who provides scientific expertise to support client needs assessment and content development. The MD serves as the primary quality control contact for internal teams and external clients, and coordinates the content development efforts of external faculty, Key Opinion Leader (KOL) and internal writing and editorial staffs. The MD works on multiple programs simultaneously and leads each team from a standpoint of content strategy and development.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the scientific direction of client programs. Ensures that medical communications are accurate, clinically relevant, and reflect the most recent medical advances.
- Consult with key opinion leaders and subject matter experts. Provides expert resources and information as needed.
- Work with clients to define goals and objectives of communication programs, ensuring delivery of the highest quality product.
- Participate in strategic planning and business development programs in their therapeutic areas of responsibility.
- Remain current with medical developments and search the research literature to ensure delivery of accurate content.
- Summarize clinical trial data and translate relevance for the appropriate target audiences according to client requirements for their current projects and their future areas of business development.
- Write medical documents including but not limited to manuscripts, white papers, monographs, slide kits, and training modules.
- Edit medical documents, review written copy for scientific and strategic accuracy, and provide quality control when necessary.
- Provide scientific and strategic background to writers, editors and other staff members.
- Manage in-house, Bangalore, and outsourced content development and editing resources assigned to a project.
- Work with the Creative Team (medical Illustrators, animators, and graphic artists) to plan the delivery of visual assets in learning products.
- Develop content outlines for proposals as assigned and attend client presentations or pitches as needed.
- Establish a strategic partner relationship with clients for development and implementation of client programs.
- Develop a strong working relationship with client medical teams to facilitate information flow and the development of new ideas.
- Take ownership for all content deliverables for all assignments
- Be a visible presence in client relationships
- Advanced degree in the life sciences, pharmacology, or medicine
- Minimum of 6 years experience in a strategic medical communications role within the pharmaceutical or medical communications industry. Must have first-hand scientific content development experience.
- Significant project management experience with direct client contact regarding project delivery and content development needs.
- Current knowledge of medical writing and referencing guidelines.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills, including:

- Advanced interpersonal and communication skills.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, RefMan, and Internet literature searches.
- Experience working with pharmaceutical and medical device regulatory personnel and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of industry regulations and guidelines, for example, FDA-IOG, HIIPA, PhRMA, and Advamed.
- Accountability for personal and team work quality.
- Travel as needed, including weekends.
