Position: Managing Editor, Hematology & Oncology

Description:
Our client is seeking an individual with 5-8 years of experience in the medical industry. Experience in the Oncology market or publishing field is a plus. The position requires strong organizational skills. The successful candidate understands the importance of deadlines and will have operations and/or management experience relevant to the medical and/or publishing industry. The position calls for a highly motivated individual interested in championing and making his or her mark.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Lead the editorial team and provide direction
- Prepare an annual Editorial Calendar and Advertiser Alert
- Prepare monthly storyboard
- Maintain regular contact with the Editorial Advisory Board and plan annual EAB meeting and reception
- Assign editorial projects to the editorial staff based on story ideas and leads from monitored news sources
- Assign articles and article reviews to EAB and contributing authors
- Monitor completion of article manuscripts and reviews to meet editorial deadlines
- Prepare monthly National News column
- Maintain network of contacts with national news services and bureaus in the medical, political and financial communities including professional associations
- Represent the publication when called upon to speak at conferences and meetings
- Establish and implement systems to insure accuracy and quality of editorial
- Assist in proofreading
- Promote value of each issue’s editorial content to advertising sales staff
- Prepare one-page monthly abstract of articles for advertising sales staff
- Distribute and promote lead articles to national wire services
- In addition to providing guidance and support to the editorial team, the Managing Editor will maintain a strategic partnership with the Editorial Advisory Board. The current EAB consists of 28 cancer care professionals from all parts of the industry.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Able to multi-task while maintaining focus on a common goal
- Superior business partnering and relationship management skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Sufficient understanding of the business of medicine and the medical market to integrate into a national magazine, identify new opportunities, and provide a competitive advantage
- Flexibility and willingness to travel to 8-10 conferences annually
- Able to represent the company and its vision with an executive image, self-confidence, and poise

- Able to work effectively with senior executives as well as a diverse staff
